So most of you will know (due to my whinging) that I was very unsatisfied in my last job and rather than just finding a new job, I thought I'd go for quick trip first and look for work on my return. Naturally that developed into another bike trip.
My cousin Luke who I travelled in s.e Asia with was heading to Beijing for two weeks to visit his brother who had been living with his Chinese girlfriend for 3 months. So he invited me along and I decided to then bring the bike and continue on after Beijing. I knew Beijing was going to be too cold to ride so the plan as to train it to Shanghai and ride out from there.
So, 15 Feb we headed off. Got upgraded to exit row seats and got into Beijing around midnight. We got a place in Beijing for the four of us and luckily had my cousins girlfriend, Nan, to show us the ropes and deal with the (as expected) crazy Chinese ways.
Beijing is staggeringly massive. Even seeing it, it's hard to comprehend the size and ridiculous population. After 1 or 2 nights the hot water stopped working on our crappy flat, and somehow after some endless conversations, some tears and negotiating by Nan, we ended up getting upgraded to this fancy hotel which was not even comparable to the previous place.
